WWOOFING -
Working on organic farms in exchange for accommodation is a great way to travel around the world.

Would you like to work on a farm for a few hours to receive food and a bed? WWOOFing stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms and is a world wide organization database for organic farms and travelers.
Rebecca from Germany has a great WWOOFing story
To register with the WWOOF group you first buy their book which lists around 1600 farms (in Australia) and includes an insurance policy for you whilst on the farm site. You must be willing to do work for four to six hours each day in return for accommodation and meals and of course this teaches you about organic farming methods while living with the locals.
It is very popular with young people and the range of jobs on farms is huge. It can be very exciting for someone who has only lived in the city and never seen chooks (chickens) or apple trees or even farming in a different country. Jobs can be anything from vegetable gardens to herding cattle or spraying grapes (with organic sprays of course).
Wwoofing
is a great way to see the world. There are other ways to volunteer and receive free board and lodgings in exchange for work. Have a look at this page. Kirsty has a interesting website and sell a very informative e-book about volunteering drawing from her experiences. Her blog is http://www.nerdynomad.com/
