Families are Welcome

Holidays can be expensive and difficult to organize at the best of times, but when you have a family there are so many more details you need to think about. You may of heard of Couchsurfing and certainly when it began it seemed to be aimed at the young backpacker market. Now with over 2,000 000 diverse members of all ages, nationalities and a wide variety of groups that you can join in order to have an even better experience. Couchsurfing offers a Family Welcome Group with over 11,000 members, that you can join and look for free accommodation; most of them have families and have a more flexible approach to children. This means that children have play mates and toys to share and that the adults aren’t constantly thinking of expensive ways to entertain their children. One valuable point that families hosting or traveling find is the special experiences gain form such a trip. Children are happy to play with other children who don’t speak the language, play is the language. The culture exchanged between the two families and the broader community can be rich and rewarding. House Swap for holidays is also a great way to organise a holiday. We did this when our children were quite young and it was an easy way of having a holiday with children. There are usually lots of facilities that can be used especially if you exchange with another family. One family had a great time when they stayed with a family in outback Australia on a farm. This was organized through a house swap database. When we visiting Europe in 2007 we stayed with a family of three boys. The father said he wanted to host people because it exposed his boys to other cultures and even though they couldn’t afford to go around the world it gave these boys an experience of other cultures they wouldn’t normally have. The eldest boy was making many friends and soon wanted to go on a world trip himself and he now had loads on contacts of people to visit.
